DORSET FORECAST - SEPTEMBER
SHORE: This is the peak fishing month for shore anglers along the Dorset coastline. Southboume beach just east of Boscombe Pier is a good bet for sole on night tides with fish up to 2lb on the cards. Ragworm is the killer bait. Both Bournemouth and Boscombe Piers should be producing plenty of fish with sole, flounder, mackerel, garfish, pollack and dab all expected. Shore fishing from the Purbeck rock marks should be superb for wrasse and pollack by day with plenty of big conger coming on night tides. Marks to head for include Durlston Head, Anvil Point, Dancing Ledge, Seacombe Cliff, Winspit, Worbarrow Bay and Durdle Door. Redcliffe just to the east of Weymouth is a good spot to try for big sole with fish well over 2lb expected. Conger, pollack and wrasse will also be caught from this beach. Portland rock marks will fish well for conger on night tides along with wrasse on day tides. The Weymouth end of Chesil beach should be good for pout, wrasse, pollack, flats, mackerel and plenty of garfish on light float tackle during quite spells. Abbotsbury and West Bexington beaches will produce bumper bags of mackerel, while leger tackle will sort out big pout, dab and a few bream. Charmouth beach always seems to produce some good conger during September especially towards the western end of the bay. Pout and dogfish will also show in good numbers all along the bank.
BOAT: Anglers afloat off Poole should find some good conger especially around the Purbeck coast. Bass will also figure in catches with the best fish coming from the Peveril race and the rip at the entrance to Poole harbour. Inshore marks will still see a few plaice come to boats on the drift between the two piers. Boats going out from Weymouth will contact bull huss, conger, rays, pout and wrasse with pollack coming from the wreck of the Hood in the southern entrance to Portland harbour. Mullet should also figure well in catches from within Weymouth harbour and for dingy anglers fishing around the Portland breakwaters. Porbeagle sharks could show well off Portland with bumper catches expected.
