SHORE: The western end of Chesil should be red hot for plaice with some big fish expected at West Bexington and Cogden. Lugworm is by far the top bait with distance casters picking up the bigger flounders. Dab, pout, dogfish, rockling and mackerel are also on the cards. Portland rock marks will produce some good wrasse along with pollack while a few conger eels should be taken on night tides. Weymouth's stone pier will see some lively sport with mackerel, garfish, pout, wrasse and pollack providing most of the action. A few mullet could start to creep inside Weymouth harbour particularly towards the back end of the month. The Purbeck rock stations should see some action with wrasse and pollack expected to show on day tides. Good sized bass are also on the cards at Kimmeridge and Chapman's Pool. Night sessions will see a few dogfish and conger. Bream could turn up along with bass from the Peveril area. Bournemouth beaches will be pretty slow on day tides with the exception of the odd plaice. Night sessions however should provide the belter sport with pout, flounder and a few early sole. Hengistbury long groyne should produce garfish, wrasse, bass and mackerel.

BOAT: Weymouth boats will find plenty of fish with deep water wrecks producing cod, ling, pollack and conger. The odd good size turbot can be expected from the Shambles bank while a few brill could be taken from the Adamant bank. Inshore marks will see dogfish, pout, ray, wrasse and conger while small boats drifting over the wreck of the Hood in the southern entrance to Portland harbour will take pollack in numbers. Bass will also be taken in Portland race with freeline sandeel doing the business. Boat action off Poole will start to liven up as the many summer species once again move into Bournemouth Bay with ray, conger, dogfish, pollack, mackerel, and even a few bream can be expected late on in the month. Dingy anglers fishing within Poole harbour will find some excellent plaice, especially from the south deep and swash channels, where flounders can also be expected. Drifting between the two piers at Bournemouth will produce more plaice with rag the top bait.
