E-mail Print

SHORE: Seatown is an obvious choice for bass from the rocky areas. Mackerel will be in along the Chesil Bank at Abbotsbury, West Bexington and Cogden. Also expect flounder, dab and dogfish. The Weymouth end of Chesil should fish well for smoothhound, dogfish, black bream and mackerel as well as smaller species like poor cod and pouting. The Bridging Camp section is the top area to fish if you are fit enough for the walk. Portland starts to produce wrasse, bass, pollack and perhaps an early conger from the east side. Good silver eel from Weymouth harbour on crab, mullet on bread or mackerel. Lots of small stuff from the Stone Pier. Lulworth, Durdle Door and Ringstead for wrasse, eel, pouting and the occasional bass. Dancing Ledge, Winspit and Seacombe all good for wrasse and pollack while bass and mullet will feature at Kimmeridge Bay and Chapman's Pool. Purbeck rock marks will improve with wrasse, mullet, bass and pollack all featuring. Good wrasse from Hengistbury Head groyne along with pollack, garfish and bass. Plenty of eel to crab from Mudeford Quay. Mullet will show from Christchurch harbour.

BOAT: All the areas wrecking boats will target the mid channel marks for big conger, cod, ling and pollack. Artificial's on light gear can be used to catch pollack and the occasional cod. Heavy bottom gear is needed for conger and ling. Good mixed fishing for boats out of West Bay. Bass, turbot and brill on the Shambles Bank. Conger and bull huss on the many reefs. Black bream should appear towards the end of the month. Tope and ray to the east of Weymouth. Big conger from the many wrecks on smaller tides. Mixed bags of ray for boats off Lulworth while the reefs improve for huss, pollack, conger, pout and black bream. Poole boats will find black bream from Bollard Down, Southbourne Rough and off the Purbecks. Similar fishing for Swanage vessels. Mixed bags around Christchurch Ledge with pollack, black bream, wrasse, bass, pouting, dogfish and conger all possible. Ray and tope from the deeper marks landed on sandeel and mackerel baits.
